Singam - Movie Review

Malar: You need to whistle when Surya is introduced, without fail, will you?
Me: Forget it lady, never did it for Vijay and do you expect me to do it for Surya? No way.
Saranya: Do you know how to whistle?
Me: Shhhh! focus on the movie, let us not miss the intro. scene.

Saranya watched the movie with her arms in her ears due to the noise in the movie. Malar actioned our thoughts by clapping for few scenes. At the interval we checked each other by munching the ice cream and pop corn. Once the movie was over, we were conversing about the movie on our way back home.

Malar: Hey, did you like the movie?
Me: Yes, I did, there was nothing new, usual masala/commercial elements, but it was served well.
Saranya: I didn't like it, it was too much of a noise, and I could predict most of the scenes, hence it was not that interesting.
Me: What can you expect from masala movies, no surprise.
Malar: Surya was awesome, and he was like a fire across the movie.
Me: Yes, Surya was awesome, especially with his new look. He roamed like a lion, after all it is his 25th movie. Hmmm, but morphing him as a lion in the action scenes was a bit too much.
Me: Surya and Prakash Raj's clashing scenes lighted fire on the screen. They both kept the movie alive and going.
Sarasu: I liked the movie, it was good, better than Villu.
Saranya: There are some punch dialogues & self boasting attitude with the character.
Me: Yeah, but the dialogues were not boasting Surya, it was boasting his character Duraisingam, so they were not annoying. However, the introduction & the climax scenes were boring Tamil masala.
Malar: The comedy was good and the songs too. It kept me tapping.
Saranya: Yes, the songs were good, it kept me humming the tunes and the dance was good too. I felt 2 songs were not situational.
Me: Agree, the songs were all upbeat and worth listening, good work Devi Sri Prasad. The picturisation was elegant, especially liked Anushka's dressing ;-).
Me: But, the comedy track was crap, Vivek was a wrong choice.
Malar: Why, it was good right? I was laughing like anything.
Me: It was all double meaning jokes and it was an artificial riot. He is not at all eligible for the Padma shri award.
Malar: I felt that the movie was dragging us in and did not let us think about anything else.
Me: True, the screenplay was faster, well done and took us in a 80 km per hour speed. Director Hari did a good job.
Sarasu: Not much emotions or sentiments in this movie as in his previous movies Vel or Aaru.
Me: Aaru was not good, Vel was ok, but Singam was better than Vel and Aaru.
Malar: Vel was also good, it was a double treat for me to watch double Surya.
Saranya: Surya and Anushka's romance scenes looked artificial and senseless.
Me: Anushka is there to fill in the role of the lead lady, a usual struggling doll between villain and hero, boring.
Malar: I liked Anushka, her acting was better than in Vettaikaran.
Me: Surya must be wearing high heels to match up with Anushka, ha ha, maybe that is what had helped him to do the gravity defying stunts. God, when will they change.
Saranya: Overall the movie was good, except that many of the scenes were predictable and noisy.
Me: Yeah, Hari always narrates repeated concepts, so no wonder you can predict it easily. However, Singam is a blend of many movies, but Prakash raj, Surya and the screenplay kept the movie in a fast pace, especially scenes like the hero goes against his superior officer. Good entertainer.

Singam - a commercial roar, can hear it for a while.

Watch the trailer here:

Singam(The Lion), was a long awaited movie from actor Surya and director Hari. Sun pictures was shouting about this movie in the nooks and the corners of the channels. A family entertainer, it was told, hence thought of watching it with my family (except my Dad).

(My Dad's lovely words still rings in my head after serving him few bad masala movies in the past)
Dad: Damn, you idiot why are ya takin me to this kinda movies? If ya ever call me again, I will beat your arse of and get your crap outta ya. I'd better do something useful than spending time with ya watchin this movie. I won't listen to you ever, you are a crazy hell boy.

...yeah, so, I did not want to take chances and accompany the elements which increases my Dad's BP and more importantly, I care about my arse ;-). So, this time, he was intentionally left out.

Note:
Malar: my sister; hardcore Surya fan; wanted to marry Surya (even now).
Saranya: my wife; likes Surya,Vijay and Dhanush; fan of easy movies; likes peace and romance.
Sarasu: my mom; fan of Sivaji; classical lover; masala and sentimental fan; traditional.
Me: movie freak; hardcore fan of Kamal; pro Vijay, like Surya too; envy Surya for his versatility; fond of well served masala and class.
