Patriotism misunderstood

10000 years old history; 3.3 million square kilo meters; 7600 km of Coastline; 6 major religions; 22 major languages; 845 dialects; 1.3 billion people; 7 major rivers; 28 states; 7 union territories; Taj Mahal; Poweful democracy; Founders of chess; ...hmm, the list never ends, and we call her Mother India.
With a stiff pose, my mind filled with heart, heart filled with soul, soul filled with pride, with a shiver in the body, I grew up as a proud Indian.

Amal, Jose, Antonio and few of my friends have witnessed me with a loud voice, wide opened eyes and an arrogant attitude to fuel up the defense in me to shield my country when some loop holes and flaws have been pointed out about my country, culture and people.
As the saying goes "A person who flaws your country, should not be spared even if your mother orders to do so", Hoo Ha! my soul shivered and my mind said, I am patriotic.

I like Netaji and love Gandhiji, hence I am angry at them for not owing me a chance to be part of the freedom fight. With that fire, I ran into a tattoo shop in Germany and printed "Jai Hind" to celebrate the Independence Day.
When there is no pain, there is no gain; a patriot does not know the pain. Long live India.

Infinite time has been clocked with and without the company of Moon and Sun, by arguing over the problems; the creators; the leaders; the politicians; the drainage; the system; the law; the changes; the society; the root cause; the remedy; Yes, argued until our throat gave up on us and went on inventing an another remedy for thirst.
Yeah! we are all children of Mother India, and we are all loyal to her. Vande Mataram.

These were my thoughts on patriotism. hmmm... I am NUTS, am I not? Though I did not do these deliberately, I was deceived to think that this is what is patriotism is all about, but as the time ticked along, mentors and friends made me realise that I was pretty much screwed. For god sake, yeah, they made me realise...

stiffening the posture for the national anthem; respecting the flag than your life; knowing history and geography about your nation; arguing over the national issues; not standing the constructive criticism about the nation; switching to defensive mode and attacking the person who criticises it; tattooing patriotic slogans in the body; shooting up the patro-meter on an Indo-Pak cricket game or when a terror attack in the state;

...just these won't make one patriotic. Since I misunderstood the meaning of the patriotism, yes, I was screwed.

Abdullah, a ticket checker in the train fined us for a missing ticket for a luggage, his politeness and respect shattered me.
Vellaiyappan, a neighbouring farmer, his dedication and mentoring to the next generation inspired me.
Shankar, my colleague in Pune, his commitment and sincerity shook me.
Sivakumar, owner of a snack shop, his straight forwardness and passionate attitude impressed me.
(I just chose few examples in a long list, if I keep listing, I bet the list will beat the Schindler's list ;-)).

All of these patriots do not know either the history or details about India. They do not know how and who delivered India. Some, do not even know the complete national anthem or the meaning of it. However, they do their duty without fail with the right attitude without compromising for anyone or anything. They might not be aware that they are lifting the country up with their actions, but in reality, they are.

They ran through me, and stamped hard in my mind and made me realise that patriotism does not need a mass motive, it does not need a complicated effort. Small things and actions taken every day with a right attitude and motive to do good itself will qualify as patriotism. Hence, every day has to be celebrated as an Independence day, not just August 15th. Therefore, patriotism is not something scenic or fashionable, but a humble act involving struggle for what we believe is right. The struggle could be in any form, it could be in,

Performing our duties correctly;
Being honest about everything in any situation;
Actions to make a difference in the society;
Voicing against the crime and corruption;
Participation and contribution to the system;
Care for the people around you;
Respecting the countrymen and the opponents;
Accepting the criticism and acting necessarily to rectify it.

I witnessed the law acting in a light speed to enforce the rules on flag handling, evolving the national anthem, posturing for the national anthem etc. I cannot explain this in any other words than "joke", hence the fun is unlimited. It is a "joke" since the government fails to realise that the patriotism is a feeling and not a knowledge or habit. It needs to be nurtured in the citizens and not forced. As we all know, anything forced in us will be killed sooner than a day.

There are plenty of silly stinking political games played in the country by the people who only cares about themselves and not their countrymen. However, I realised that the love for the country is different from the love for the government. We have to bear with lots of non-sense with the government's lack of vision, planning and lack of common sense, but a patriot should still perform his/her duty correctly to bring up the society and the nation.

Singam - Movie Review

Malar: You need to whistle when Surya is introduced, without fail, will you?
Me: Forget it lady, never did it for Vijay and do you expect me to do it for Surya? No way.
Saranya: Do you know how to whistle?
Me: Shhhh! focus on the movie, let us not miss the intro. scene.

Saranya watched the movie with her arms in her ears due to the noise in the movie. Malar actioned our thoughts by clapping for few scenes. At the interval we checked each other by munching the ice cream and pop corn. Once the movie was over, we were conversing about the movie on our way back home.

Malar: Hey, did you like the movie?
Me: Yes, I did, there was nothing new, usual masala/commercial elements, but it was served well.
Saranya: I didn't like it, it was too much of a noise, and I could predict most of the scenes, hence it was not that interesting.
Me: What can you expect from masala movies, no surprise.
Malar: Surya was awesome, and he was like a fire across the movie.
Me: Yes, Surya was awesome, especially with his new look. He roamed like a lion, after all it is his 25th movie. Hmmm, but morphing him as a lion in the action scenes was a bit too much.
Me: Surya and Prakash Raj's clashing scenes lighted fire on the screen. They both kept the movie alive and going.
Sarasu: I liked the movie, it was good, better than Villu.
Saranya: There are some punch dialogues & self boasting attitude with the character.
Me: Yeah, but the dialogues were not boasting Surya, it was boasting his character Duraisingam, so they were not annoying. However, the introduction & the climax scenes were boring Tamil masala.
Malar: The comedy was good and the songs too. It kept me tapping.
Saranya: Yes, the songs were good, it kept me humming the tunes and the dance was good too. I felt 2 songs were not situational.
Me: Agree, the songs were all upbeat and worth listening, good work Devi Sri Prasad. The picturisation was elegant, especially liked Anushka's dressing ;-).
Me: But, the comedy track was crap, Vivek was a wrong choice.
Malar: Why, it was good right? I was laughing like anything.
Me: It was all double meaning jokes and it was an artificial riot. He is not at all eligible for the Padma shri award.
Malar: I felt that the movie was dragging us in and did not let us think about anything else.
Me: True, the screenplay was faster, well done and took us in a 80 km per hour speed. Director Hari did a good job.
Sarasu: Not much emotions or sentiments in this movie as in his previous movies Vel or Aaru.
Me: Aaru was not good, Vel was ok, but Singam was better than Vel and Aaru.
Malar: Vel was also good, it was a double treat for me to watch double Surya.
Saranya: Surya and Anushka's romance scenes looked artificial and senseless.
Me: Anushka is there to fill in the role of the lead lady, a usual struggling doll between villain and hero, boring.
Malar: I liked Anushka, her acting was better than in Vettaikaran.
Me: Surya must be wearing high heels to match up with Anushka, ha ha, maybe that is what had helped him to do the gravity defying stunts. God, when will they change.
Saranya: Overall the movie was good, except that many of the scenes were predictable and noisy.
Me: Yeah, Hari always narrates repeated concepts, so no wonder you can predict it easily. However, Singam is a blend of many movies, but Prakash raj, Surya and the screenplay kept the movie in a fast pace, especially scenes like the hero goes against his superior officer. Good entertainer.

Singam - a commercial roar, can hear it for a while.

Watch the trailer here:

Singam(The Lion), was a long awaited movie from actor Surya and director Hari. Sun pictures was shouting about this movie in the nooks and the corners of the channels. A family entertainer, it was told, hence thought of watching it with my family (except my Dad).

(My Dad's lovely words still rings in my head after serving him few bad masala movies in the past)
Dad: Damn, you idiot why are ya takin me to this kinda movies? If ya ever call me again, I will beat your arse of and get your crap outta ya. I'd better do something useful than spending time with ya watchin this movie. I won't listen to you ever, you are a crazy hell boy.

...yeah, so, I did not want to take chances and accompany the elements which increases my Dad's BP and more importantly, I care about my arse ;-). So, this time, he was intentionally left out.

Note:
Malar: my sister; hardcore Surya fan; wanted to marry Surya (even now).
Saranya: my wife; likes Surya,Vijay and Dhanush; fan of easy movies; likes peace and romance.
Sarasu: my mom; fan of Sivaji; classical lover; masala and sentimental fan; traditional.
Me: movie freak; hardcore fan of Kamal; pro Vijay, like Surya too; envy Surya for his versatility; fond of well served masala and class.

Yes, I did

Damn it! I did it, yes, How can I dare to do so? Oh...My... God... what have I done, what am I getting into... pffff.

Yes, I was screaming inside after daring to say YES to my parents to kick off my marriage process. Yes, I did. I thought they would never find any girl at least for a year. Regardless of my open challenges (which was also recorded by my brother-in-law Vasanth), my parents have managed to find a girl sooner than expected. I must blame my Grandpa, he was the master mind behind this deal. Now, there is no looking back. At last, I made up my mind and got over the difficult part.

Yes, I got over the difficult part. Did I really? hmmm, as most of you, I doubt it. One of my friend said to me, "The difficult part of my life is yet to begin" (I will remember those words for my life). Yeah, it is difficult to imagine myself as a family person, how will I be? Only God knows. Whoops! Do I know him? I can only remember the saying "In this world, any unknown is named as God", well, in that case I know him.

Uhhhh! enough of boring speech, I got to go now, have too many things to be done prior to the occasion. Jewels; dress; formalities; food; procedures; stage decorations; photo; video; accommodation; travel; money.... aaaang! most importantly, the invitation.

Since I have already fractured myself enough, doctor advised not to strain too much for some time. So, thought of an e-invitation this time. When it comes to that, the options are endless. Yeah! thought about...
A puzzle unfolds the details of the marriage as you solve them.
Inviting with a funny story in flash animation.
A youtube video invitation.
...and more.

However, as always I found an excuse of not having enough time to make any of the above... hence, here I invite...
